Washer Door Won't Lock: Safe Checks

Remove simple obstructions without bypassing an important safety interlock.

Move clothing away from the gasket, wipe the latch area, and close the door with normal pressure. Never bypass or force the lock.

Checks to make in order

Do not reach into the washer until the drum is still.

Check the gasket, latch hook, and door opening.

Look for a cracked hook, loose hinge, or detergent buildup.

After the tub is empty, disconnect power briefly and retry.

The washer does not detect a securely closed and locked door. Remove trapped clothing and inspect the latch before restarting.

The Add Door was opened without the required pause or is not being detected as closed. Reseat it without forcing the latch.

dE means the washer could not lock its door. Remove trapped clothing, clean the latch area, and close the door normally.

The door is not locking correctly. Remove trapped clothing, clean the latch area, and close it normally.

The door is not locking properly. Remove anything blocking the latch and close the door completely.
