Printer Paper Jam: Safe Removal Checklist
Find hidden scraps without damaging rollers, sensors, or the encoder strip.
Cancel the job, let the printer stop, and remove paper slowly through the access path shown in the manual. A small torn scrap can keep the warning active.
Checks to make in order
Power down when directed
Wait for all carriage and roller movement to stop.
Use the correct access path
Open normal covers and pull with both hands to reduce tearing.
Search for scraps
Use a flashlight around rollers and the output slot.
Reload a modest stack
Use flat supported media and align the guides without bending the paper.
Stop and get help when
- Paper is wrapped around an inaccessible roller
- A laser printer's hot fuser area is involved
- Grinding continues with an empty paper path
